Living in Korea, my family and I embarked on a much-anticipated vacation to Bangkok in January. The excitement was slightly marred when I started experiencing gum swelling the night before our trip, which escalated into severe gum inflammation by our first night at the hotel, rendering me unable to enjoy any meals. Determined not to let this ruin our holiday, I endured the pain for a day. However, by the next night, the toothache became unbearable. With no previous experience of visiting a hospital while traveling abroad, and burdened with concerns about overcharging, the quality of medical care, and potential medical mishaps, I spent a sleepless night worrying. Yet, driven by necessity, I used Google Maps to find the earliest opening dental clinic and arrived 30 minutes before they opened. I was warmly greeted by a middle-aged nurse who welcomed me with such warmth that it felt like meeting my own mother. My limited English led me to use a translation app to describe my symptoms, but she reassured me and advised that the dentist would arrive soon. She even suggested I could have breakfast at a restaurant within the building if I hadn't eaten. Shortly after, I met the dentist - a young, intelligent-looking man who was incredibly kind. He patiently used a translation app to understand my symptoms, provided treatment, and prescribed medication. His professionalism and empathy, combined with the genuine kindness from all the staff, were beyond my expectations. There was no overtreatment, and the charges were fair. The swelling began to subside by that evening, allowing me to thoroughly enjoy the rest of our trip. Reflecting on our trip to Bangkok last January during a family dinner, I felt compelled to share my gratitude for the exceptional care I received. Thanks to this dental clinic, Bangkok will forever be remembered as a city of kindness in my heart. A heartfelt thank you to the staff for their compassionate care and for turning my distress into a positive experience.
